Two weeks is a really long time if you don’t have a hell of a lot of
stuff to do. Even though I was in Tucson for 4 days with plenty to do,
there were times I was just bored out of my mind, or so exhausted that
I didn’t care. I think it’s because I wasn’t doing anything productive.
I also think it was because I had expectations of getting back here the
28th and then going to NOLA for a few days, which didn’t happen. New
Year’s was pretty fun, but it sucked knowing that I could have been in
New Orleans eating at K-Paul’s and listening to Astral Project over at
Snug Harbor and then going out for late night beignets and coffee. I
think we’re planning a trip for February, if our schedules work out.
We got Brubeck out on Saturday morning and he’s been great so far. He
has a decent amount of energy and his appetite is huge. The biggest
factor in determining when he got out was how much he’d eat on his own.
Now it’s like he can’t get enough, but I can’t feed him much more than
a 1/4 cup at a time, but I feed him probably 5 or 6 times a day. Poor
little guy has his front legs shaved where they had the IV’s (complete
with track marks), but I think the hair will grow back quickly. He was
relatively well behaved on the trip home, except for a little
whining/barking towards the end. I can’t blame him; all in all it was
around 12 hours in the car. We stopped for a real lunch and dinner and
made a couple potty stops as well. Thank goodness for XM radio (my gift
to Scott)! We listened to all sorts of stuff and it really helped the
drive go by quickly.
Today is nothing but unpacking and getting things back to normal. I had
a couple of gifts to exchange and I had to run to the bank to deposit
Xmas money and later I need to run to the store to buy stuff to eat.
Even after 2 weeks there were very few “surprises” in the fridge, but
there’s very little in the way of fruits and veggies in the house. I
had some tangerines but those suckers were moldy.
