Yesterday, I found out that I indeed did not get the job I interviewed for in late January. Worse yet, they chose to inform me via a form letter attached to an e-mail. This after last week’s unacknowledged e-mail (mine) and weeks of utter silence (theirs).

Why can’t we count on search committees to do the right thing? Candidates invest a great deal of time, work, and emotion in their campus visits. The least we could get is a timely phone call informing us that we did not get the job. You wouldn’t extend an offer in such an impersonal way, so why is right to reject people like that? Completely chickenshit, in my book. Grow a pair and own your decisions. It’s the least you can do.
