Barney, from the incident last month, has really redeemed himself in a big way.

On Monday, I slithered down to the departmental office to grab my mail, and there was a plain envelope in my box with my name handwritten on it.

Inside, there was a very kind and heartfelt note from Barney, thanking me for giving him a second chance and again apologizing for what he had done. He could have easily dashed off a quick e-mail (or not said anything at all), but he took the time and effort to do that. I was touched, and also happy to see that he took my lecture to heart.

Screw Jean Twenge. These kids are OK.
