(With apologies to the Double Rainbow video guy.)

I trolled the listings in the Chronicle this morning (a great way to start off any day) and found a position at a good school in a decent location that is exactly in my field of expertise.  So, of course, there’s a catch:  It’s a 2-year VAP (visiting assistant professor) position.  ¡Ay!

Would you apply, hoping that it could be a springboard for better future opportunities (or that it will morph into a t-t position)?  Or, do you see it as a dead end and something you don’t touch with a plastic-wrapped 10-foot pole? Other than the fact that it’s listed as a limited time position, it’s absolutely perfect for me in every way.

Aside from that, I’m really not seeing anything.  This could be a really bad year for me.
