1. The scene with the “lawyer” from Oceanic scared the hell out of me. His eyes looked hollow. ::shudder::

2. I literally curled up in a ball and covered my eyes when Hurley found the Jacob cabin. OMG WHO the FUCK was that in the window?

3. Hurley…Claire…I…I…::sniff:: I think Hurley will “adopt” Claire and her behbeh now.

4. OK, so there’s the Oceanic Six, and we know that Jack, Kate, and Hurley came back. Theories as to the other three???

5. Jin new haircut makes him look PHINE. Rawrrrr.

After reading this article, I think I’d like to see something like this happen in all 50 states. I’m already an organ donor to begin with, so I certainly wouldn’t mind saving the $23 it costs to get my license renewed. I think Alabama has a pretty decent program to encourage organ donation, but there can always be more.

Thoughts?

OK, sorry to be harping on how much I heart IKEA, but I found this blog a few days ago while trying to figure out the curtain wire assembly. There are so many clever ideas in this blog, many of which I would like to attempt.

I realize that some of their stuff is kind of crap, but with some of their products, you really can’t go wrong.

I wish I lived near one. Then again, maybe I don’t. I would probably spend a lot of money there.

When the hell did Gap decide that $70 was a reasonable price for a pair of jeans? It’s not as if they’re paying their workers fair wages anyways.

You know things are out of control when purchasing a t shirt and jeans will set you back nearly $100.

We had Monday off, so we decided on the spur of the moment to go to Atlanta. I managed to convince Scott to go to IKEA with me, and we came out with some awesome deals!

For the den, we got these curtains. They’re a drastic improvement over our faded, red curtains that were covered in dog and cat hair, and they let in a lot of light without compromising our privacy. We have two sliding glass doors in our den that face out into the back yard, and we finally have curtains for both sets of doors.  Now I don’t feel like the meter reader is staring in at us in our PJs. We also got these curtains and this curtain wire for our dining room. It’s the only room in the whole house that doesn’t have some sort of curtains or blinds on them, and I think we may be putting these up today.

Where else can you get curtains and curtain rods for two rooms for less than $100?!

I ordered the kit that

suggested from Sephora this morning. I’m excited! Even though it’s a bit more than I’m used to spending on makeup (I usually buy Almay or Neutrogena, with the occasional Mary Kay or Avon/Mark thrown in), if it’s as good as they say it is, it will be worth it.

Yesterday, I took an important step in improving my diet (as in what I eat daily…I’m not on a diet, lol). From here on out, I will no longer buy chips or cookies from a vending machine, and I will not drink any sodas containing high fructose corn syrup, ever. Basically, if I’m at someone’s house and they have chips, I’ll eat them (sparingly), and I’ll make cookies at home, but no more machine cuisine for me. I’ll drink a soda if it’s made with sugar or if it’s diet, although I plan to phase out diet sodas in the near future as well. I’m ultimately hoping to nearly eliminate all processed foods from my diet, though not completely. I’m using these small, attainable benchmarks to help me reach that, in the hopes that I might actually accomplish my goal. We’ll see how that goes.

My current pet peeves, in no particular order:

1. People who can’t seem to respect the most basic rules of spelling and grammar, particularly in online forums. Look, I know you whippersnappers think it’s kEwl wHen u tyPe liEk tHis, but in the real world, we like our capitalizations to be a bit more predicatable, thanks. Especially irritating when someone types like this whilst asking for advice in communities such as

or

. I can’t take someone seriously when they can’t type like an adult.

2. Somewhat related to online communication: If you get in the interwebz asking for advice from complete strangers, at least pretend to take it. If you wanted to be coddled and validated, then you should have asked for that, instead.

3. People who act like vegetarianism can’t possibly be healthy (“Oh noes, where do you get your protein/iron/B12?!?!?!”) or people who claim to be vegetarians and yet eat chicken/fish/copious amounts of junk food. If you eat chicken, you’re not a vegetarian. If you eat fish, you’re a pescetarian, although you’re on the right track. If you eat nothing but junk, you’re a complete idiot. Most people I know are morons when it comes to things like nutrition, and I get really sick of the “Mmmm…juicy, juicy steak” or “You HAVE to have meat to survive” comments. 90% of people probably have no idea what sort of things their food is doing to them. I don’t mock your culinary choices (although I probably could), so I expect mine to be respected as well. I don’t sit there and retch while my lunch or dinner buddy eats chicken or other animal, nor do I make a scene when I discover some meat or meat derivative in my food. I’m not “one of those.” So lay off.

4. People who don’t control their children in public. I expect to be able to go to Target/Publix/the coffee shop and not be run over, hit, or otherwise annoyed by someone’s screaming, flailing little crotch spawn. There was this 3 year old kid in the Philly airport that must have been demon possessed, because he was screaming like a danged banshee and literally flipping off of the seats in the waiting area. Hismother’s solution? “Here’s some more candy!!!” *headdesk*

5. Living somewhere that entails a one hour drive (at least) to see good live music, buy decent groceries, or catch a flight. I so want out of here.

So far things look good for this semester (my last semester of coursework, if you can believe it). I switched sections in my structural equation modeling class, so I won’t have to deal w/ CGS or Right Wing Nutjob. I also found out that we’re meeting a grand total of 6 times this semester: twice in January, once in Feb, once in March, and twice in April. That will be quite nice, not only because it means I don’t have class every week, but also because I can go to yoga on Wednesday nights. I managed to convince my boss to let me not work on Wednesdays, so this semester may actually be easier on me than last semester. This will free me up to start studying for comps, which I still plan on taking this summer.

Today I plan to go get my text for the SEM class, check out the sale at Old Navy (they have some basics on sale that would be good to have), go buy Brubeck some doggy treats, and meet up w/ my friend Robin for an early dinner. She’s now nearly 6 months along in her pregnancy, and her belly just kind of showed up out of nowhere in the last few weeks. It’s kind of cool to see all the changes and whatnot, and it will be so exciting when the baby actually arrives!

OK, off to be productive.

Well, I’m in Day 12 of Battle of the Plague, and the Plague finally won. In other words, I went to the doctor today. She fixed me up with some Cipro and a decongestant/expectorant to help thin, loosen, and dry up the waterworks in my nose, throat, and lungs. Because I’m married to a UA faculty member, I can go to the Faculty/Staff Clinic, which has a cheaper co-pay, no wait, and a private waiting room (w/ Internet access). I hadn’t intended to be so macho about being sick, but there just didn’t seem to be a good time. 23rd and 24th, I was in Spain. The 25th was Christmas, I was too sick to get out on the 26th, my dad came to visit on the 27th, I thought I was maybe getting better on the 28th, we drove to Missouri on the 29th. Sunday the 30th was Christmas w/ his folks, the 31st and 1st were holidays, the 2nd we drove back to Alabama, and so here I am today, nearly 2 weeks after getting sick, just now getting some medical attention. I’ll be glad not to be carrying around snotty Kleenex in my pocket like someone’s grandma or hacking like a pack-a-day smoker.

I bought an album by The Ditty Bops today…so far I really like it. I splurged a bit with my Christmas money and bought that album, a new wallet, and some clothes. The rest I’ll probably use to get my hair cut and whatever else comes up this month. It’s nice to have money again.

In other news, I ran over a live chicken today on my way back from Publix. Shudder…
