I wouldn’t call myself a football fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve really enjoyed watching the Tide this year. I was lucky enough to score tickets to the Arkansas game last week (and for free, no less) and boy, did that make a Saban believer out of me! I was so hoarse the next day! I kind of wanted to watch the Georgia game tonight, but we’ll be at a dinner party, so I’m DVR’ing it. This could be a really good game. Hearing Lee Corso scream out “Sweet home Alabama! Roll Tide!” on ESPN Gameday was kind of funny.

I’ve been trying to ride my bike around a lot more lately, and it’s been enjoyable. I went over to a friend’s house last night near campus and biking was definitely the way to go then. There were so many cars driving in that direction, and I was zipping past all of them on my bike. I also took my bike to the park by the river Thursday night to meet a friend to walk. That was a really good work out and kind of fun. You get a completely different perspective of the world when you’re on a bike. As the weather cools off even more, I’m hoping to be able to maybe take my bike to campus a few days a week or to run to the store. Good for me, good for the environment, blah blah blah.

Speaking of the environment, you should try out  this game . It’s eye-opening.

I really need to get my shizz together for my study. I feel like developing my question and finding measures (and then deciding which one or ones to use) has been a really long and tedious process. There’s so much out there and so many perspectives I could take, and figuring out which one works best for what I want to examine is so hard. Do I measure religiosity or faith development? Religiosity or religious orthodoxy? Moral judgment development, faith development, or both? The sheer size of everything is just really intimidating. I can make this as big as I want it, but I don’t want to take on too much too quickly.

We’ve been engaging in a months-long battle with Alabama Power (specifically their meter reading contractor) over the fact that our meter is being constantly misread. We’re talking a difference of $100 or more a month. If it were $10, no big deal, but sorry, we’re not paying $300 for a $200 of electricity. As it is, we keep our air no lower than 80 (more like 85), have about 90% of our light sources equipped with CFL bulbs, and we have high efficiency appliances. In other words, there’s no way that we’ve racked up a bill of $300 or more.

So Scott and I are sitting in our den enjoying a lovely Saturday morning, and we see someone walk halfway into the yard, and then walk out., and nowhere near our electric meter. Funny, since she’s supposed to be reading it. Scott says, “It’s the meter reader, get her!” He was not decently dressed, but I was somewhat dressed, so as she was walking back around the house, I walked out the side door and asked her what reading she got, since she’s been way off the last few months. She gave me some snarky look, read the reading she had, and then hightailed it out of there. I wrote it down, and then we checked our meter. Not even close!

Now he’s on the phone w/ Alabama Power. We’ll see how this goes.

I have been up to absolutely nothing of interest this week. I mean, I could have generated a few pointless entries, but why? This is the time of the year where things start accelerating just ever so slightly quicker than I can manage. I’ll catch up in the next few weeks, I hope, I hope, I hope!

Until then…

  • I had a presentation to give Wednesday night in class. On an article written by my prof. (quelle surprise!) and a book written by Dewey. Mmmkay. Most of his works are fairly short, so I figured I’d check it out from the library Tuesday morning. Dee dee dee…I got there, only to find it no only on reserve (i.e., you can’t take it home), but also a whopping 297 pages. Yes. Damn. I requested a copy from the annex, took that sucker home and read EVERY DAMN PAGE that night. I almost got sick. I then started my PowerPoint, then passed out from exhaustion. Luckily, I got everything finished in plenty of time, and my presentation kicked ass. I felt like I really and truly knew the stuff, and it came across well in the presentation. Never doing that again.
  • Finally have my car back. The total was over $600, even after the discount. As much as it sucks, we’re just going to keep my car and do what we gotta do to keep it running, because that’s still cheaper than buying another car.
  • We spent most of our weekend watching The Staircase. Very good documentary, but flawed. If you watch it, don’t research any aspect of the case until you’re done. Trust me.

Just when I thought that everything was going pretty much OK…

Scott and I took our cars in this morning for tire rotations and oil changes. They found that my tie rods were basically broken, and that repairing them would be over $400. As much a we hate putting money into a car that isn’t worth anything, we’re going to have to do it. Worse yet, they can get the part until Tuesday, so they can’t fix it until Wednesday, and I won’t be able to pick up the car until Thursday.

Fuck.
