I have a long, long way to go. Back in 2004, I was going to the gym quite regularly and pushing myself pretty hard. I even had somewhat of a personal trainer. I wasn’t the skinniest I’ve ever been, but I sure as hell was strong. Now, not so much. I used to be able to do 50 lbs on this one particular machine (at my peak). Yesterday, 25 lbs was challenging me. I physically couldn’t do 35. Forget 50. I know that I can work back up to that and that I’ll enjoy the results. But it won’t be easy, and as my mom used to say, “Rome weren’t built in no day.”  I did 30 minutes on the elliptical last night after work and then 30 minutes of upper body work and stretches. I figure doing that 4 or 5 times a week should show a least minimal results in 3 weeks. Really noticeable ones after about 6-8 weeks. By the end of March, I should be very close to my goal, and then I’ll just be consistent in maintaining what I have. In a nutshell, here’s what I want to accomplish:

  1. Be able to do 1 full hour on the elliptical machine
  2. Make my arms look way more toned (I want some definition, y’all.)
  3. Get rid of love handles (shudder…)
  4. Be able to lift 55 on the machine I mentioned earlier.
  5. Be able to bicep curl 25 lbs

It doesn’t sound like much, but I know it will be a lot of work for me. I really let myself get out of shape over the past few months w/ my hectic schedule, and I can’t treat myself that way.

Today wasn’t a gym day, but we steam cleaned the carpets and the furniture, and so I think that’s plenty of exercise for me!

Day 3 January 5, 2007

I am never ever ever attending another one of that harpy’s yoga classes. She doesn’t know what the hell she is doing, and consequently, I was still sore yesterday from Tuesday class. WTF-ever. I’ve been to so many yoga classes that were far more strenuous than hers and I never felt sore afterwards. She did a lot of strength stuff but little to no fluidity or stretching poses. That’s not yoga, darlin’. Yesterday, I did some upperbody stuff, 33 minutes on the elliptical, and then some ab work, push-ups and some stretching for a total of an hour and five minutes. Not bad. I’m going today after work to make 4 days in a row. It takes 21 days to establish a habit, so I’m almost 1/5 of the way there. Ha.

Yesterday I spent a good part of the day packing up my office for the impending move (a little more than a month away). It will be nice to get the hell out of here, even if my new digs are about half the size of my current office. At least it’s clean, renovated, and all that jazz. I basically have a cubicle within an office, which is way nicer than what most of the other staff people got (cubicles out in the open). There’s a lot of shit in here that I’m hoping my boss will give me the OK to get rid of. Seriously, do I need paper copies of all the e-mails from the person who had my job 3 years ago? No. So let me pitch them, dammit!

I bought some new shoes yesterday. They’re cute, but in need of breaking in/scuffing. I tried to find a picture online, but couldn’t. They’re red wedges with a small bow on the front and a peep toe. They’re sexy and they make me tall. Woohoo!

Also successful. I ate lunch early (at my desk) and then at 12:00 went over to the Rec for a short workout. I did 20 minutes of interval training on the elliptical and a 3 minute cooldown. Then I took a shower and went back to work. My arms are still sore from yesterday, but maybe doing some upper body stuff tomorrow will help that.

Day One of my quest went well. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical with a 5 minute cooldown and then an hour-long yoga class. It was with an instructor I don’t like (hello, yoga is supposed to be relaxing and the poses are supposed to be held to build strength and balance) but it did the job. I’m a little sore today, but hardly in pain or anything. I just feel like I’ve worked out. I may go today for a quick session on the elliptical or something. It was very cathartic to work out for that long, especially since I’ve been cooped up a lot lately and not very active.

Work today should be boring as usual. Ah well, it pays the bills.

I can’t wait for classes to start. I want to see people my own age (or slightly older).

I’m not entirely sure why I’m at work today, but I am. I doubt my boss will be here and I’m sure as HELL not calling him to let him know I’m around. He can stay in his cozy Mt. Brook abode and I will happily leave early. Muahaha.

Today begins my quest to get back in shape before the wedding. I’m going to the gym after work, so wish me luck. I haven’t stepped foot in that place since mid August. It’s the longest I’ve ever gone without being active and I’m feeling the effects. I think I will see some results pretty quickly so long as I’m consistent. I won’t start fittings until March anyways, so I have time to tone up before then. I think the combination of healthier eating (which has been a work in progress) and working out will really yield some great results. By the end of June I will definitely look better. I am dreading all the New Year’s Resolution folks at the Rec, but they tend to be gone by the first of February. It’s always some freshman that’s put on a hell of a lot of weight and goes gung ho for about 2 weeks and then quits. They’re the scary folks who are on the elliptical or the treadmill going 90 to nothing and you wonder at what point they’ll fly off of it. I’m definitely going easy on myself today because I know better.
