I won some Graduate Travel & Research Award through my department. Granted, it’s not much, but it sure does help w/ my travel expenses to Spokane. My advisor actually e-mailed me yesterday congratulating me and telling me that it was a big deal because the competition was stiffer this year than in the past. Now if I could only get a couple hundred from the Grad School, I will be well on my way to paying for my trip. Sweeeet.
ETA: I just realized that the award I won was indeed from the Grad School and not my department, meaning that I am definitely getting money from my department!!! Spokane, here I come….

yay!
Does your Graduate Student Association offer any travel assistance? I know at UAB they would pay either $75-$100 per year for educational travel assistance and I took advantage of it when I went to Chicago for a conference. You might want to see if they have something like that at UA!
They may. Good idea!
GOod to hear!
Thanks! Maybe your good luck rubbed off on me or something, lol. BTW I was at Sidewalk on Saturday for a couple hours, before it started pouring (ick). I really enjoy going, though I haven’t ever been able to see as much as I wanted to.
Congratulations!
It’s such a help when school or work chips in for that sort of thing…especially when it helps them as well.
Definitely…even if I only get half my expenses paid, it will be helpful!
Mabrouk! It’s nice that your department can supplement your grad. college. Ours offers $600 for travel, but you can only win it twice, so it’s hard to deccide when to apply.
Shukran, habibti! I don’t think we’re limited to the number of times we can apply, but we also don’t get as much. I like their approach of trying to give a little bit to everybody rather than pouring money on a few and screwing the rest. For me a couple hundred is better than nothing!
ROCK!!!
That’s more than I ever got…
I was a sloppy scholar, what can I say?
They are trying to give more money to more people, so it’s a start!
