Never never have I ever woke up at 3 AM on a Saturday morning, driven 9 hours total (round trip) to New Orleans, and then played poker until 11 PM. Until this weekend. I am sooooooooooo tired.

Our trip to NOLA was ultra-productive, despite the fact we were both chugging Red Bull to stay awake on the drive back. We had three sites we were looking at as potential ceremony/reception sites (especially with an out of town event, you want to have stuff as close together as possible) and a photographer that we wanted to meet with. We rolled into town around 9 AM, went to Cafe du Monde for beignets and coffee/hot chocolate (him/me), then we went over to the Garden District to get our blue cheese bread fix at la boulangerie and then decided to call the photographer to see if we could meet w/ him a little earlier than planned.

The dude was awesome! His pictures are really mindblowing, he’s a really cool guy and his rates are reasonable. He is free for all the dates we’re looking at, so unless something comes up, we’re going with him. Check out his website.

We checked out our three sites: two in the Quarter and one Uptown (sort of in the warehouse district).  The two in the Quarter were OK, but not exactly what we were looking for. One was out of our budget and the other had a nice courtyard, but we couldn’t really visualize it (not to mention having an outdoor wedding in the summer in New Orleans is so effin’ uncomfortable). Our third site ended up being exactly what we wanted. It’s an old jazz club and it’s a really really cool space. The guy who owns it is also the exec. chef, so we know the food will be good and not a bunch of tiny quiches from Sam’s or something. He had the last three Saturdays in June open, so I’ll just have to see what works best for everyone involved before we put down a deposit and sign a contract. It’s also the one most within our budget and it’s definitely the coolest of the three.

It’s really exciting to see things start to move. By the end of the week we should have a site/caterer and a photographer. The little details can wait (at least for a little while). Next on the list is getting a dress picked out, since everything I’ve read indicates that you should get your dress at least 9 months before (so that it can be ready in plenty of time for fittings). We are coming up on that milestone very, very soon, so I need to get cracking.

Wow, the venue is beautiful. I love the pictures of the candlelight ceremony where all the guests are holding candles. The photographer is great, especially for the price. I’m paying $1500 for mine and they’re located in Birmingham.

Both the venue and the photographer look amazing. It’s always really fun to start picking out stuff for your wedding, and having it in NO sounds like a good call for you two.

Also, that blue cheese bread sounds REALLY good.
