Haphazard Musings of a Budding Academic

fabbolus, fabbolus clothes! July 12, 2006

What with money being in short supply as of late, I don’t really do a lot of shopping. However, I saw this really cute shirt at Old Navy that I swore to myself I would buy if it went on sale. It finally did, and I bought it, and for about a 1/3 of what I would have paid for it if I had just jumped at it when I first saw it.

It rocks to be at work with no boss! When the cat’s away, the mice will do their stats homework! Couple that with a 4-day workweek (you get your birthday off with pay) and I am so freakin’ stoked! I’m taking Friday off, sleepin’ in, getting a massage (I have birthday money, a student discount AND a $10 off coupon…how can I not?!) and then who knows what. I kind of want to go to the pool, too, as I did last year on my birthday. I have absolutely no color and that needs to change.

One of my best friends moved back home for good yesterday. It’s so weird to see her go. I guess I’ll be planning a trip to Turkey in the next couple years.

Can this day just be over already???? July 7, 2006

Feeling tired and run-down is one thing. Looking it is quite another. I got maybe 5 hours of sleep last night (and that’s a generous estimate) and yesterday was so exhausting. I worked like a freaking dog until I had to leave at 1:30 for an eye appointment, a dentist appointment and then to get my hair re-colored (it’s been about 4 months and it really, really needed it). My eye appointment was perhaps the worst I’ve ever had. I fucking refuse to ever go back. My appointment was at 2:00 and I wasn’t seen by the doctor until after 3:00. My dentist appointment was at 3:30, so I was freaking out. I waited over an hour to spend less than 5 MINUTES with the eye doctor. I have never, ever waited that long for the eye doctor, nor have I ever spent so little time with one. He had absolutely no personality either. They dilated my eyes w/o telling me first (thanks, fuckers) so I had to call Scott to drive me to the dentist. If you live in Tuscaloosa, do yourself a favor and don’t go to Tuscaloosa Opthamology/Riverside Optical. Nevermind that every phone interaction I had with them was very negative (i.e., put on hold for 5 minutes at a time, receptionists were rude and condescending). I need new glasses and contacts but I’m going to get them at Target/Walmart/anywhere but there. I so wish I could have gone to my old eye doctor because his staff is so nice and he is a really good eye doctor. It’s almost worth it to go to him (as an out of network provider), pay up front and then get reimbursed later.

I wish my boss would just call already so that I can fax this stuff to him (he’s in Montgomery) so that I can leave!!!! Ugh, I’m so tired of working this week (and I even had a 3-day workweek, but it feels like 30 days).

I went a whole week w/o updating. Inconceivable!!

My allergies are waging war on me and I don’t particularly want to be here today. My nose is really sort of runny and I can’t stop sneezing. I think I slept OK last night, seeing as how I fell asleep before 10 (please, hold off on the Geritol and Ben-Gay care packages).

The trip to Missouri was mostly uneventful. We discovered that our doggie has tapeworms (ughhghghg) and so we need to get on that pronto. We hung out a lot w/ Mike, which was a ton of fun. He wants to leave SF and move back to Columbia. They talked about starting up a law practice, which I think would be pretty cool. I just want Scott to have a job that he likes. I’m pretty sure I could get a job in the area, either at UM or at one of the smaller colleges in the area. I had a little mishap when we were shooting off fireworks and now I have skinned up hands like some 10-year-old. I also got eaten alive by mosquitos and I have these huge welts all over my torso. Lovely. I sprayed OFF on my arms, legs, feet, neck, but didn’t think they would make the effort to get up in my clothes. I was so, so wrong.

This weekend should be relatively uneventful. I have some stats homework to do and I’m going to a wedding. Other than that I may actually get to relax.
